As part of 16th Alingsas Light Festival, which took place in the Alingsas City of Sweden between September 30th and November 6th, 2016, approximately 70 thousands of people visited magnificent light show under the leadership of international designers.
The story of the Alingsas Light Festival, which is regularly held every year in Sweden, began with students from Jönköping University and Göteborg University met in 1999 to perform modern lighting designs for public buildings. The following year, after the agreement between the Municipality and the Professional Lighting Designers Association (PLDA), the event was further augmented and became an annual event, in which international lighting designers could also participate. In 2014, after a new agreement was signed between the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and the Municipality of Alingsas, the event was transformed into a festival hosting 85 thousands of people as an international platform. In this sense, the other important names behind the passing of the project are sponsors which are “Sparbanken Alingsas, Alingsas Energy, FABS and Alingsashem”.
Between September 30 and November 6, 2016, the festival’s light shows took place in 16th edition which was taken part by seven teams of 58 lighting students from Australia, India, Greece, Chile, Norway, Brazil, Italy, Mexico, Indonesia, Argentina, South Africa, Ecuador, Albania and Egypt, led by eight different lighting designers from Sweden, Italy, USA, UK, Spain, Germany and Belgium. The teams also performed workshops.
During the Festival of Light, 22 active guides lead 190 tours of walking a total of 475km during the five weeks of the festival. Moreover, they have given detailed information about the importancy and protection of the environment with the help of lighting, at the same time the opportunity to experience amazing light shows, who are participated from different geographies.
